Because, frankly, it’s just not convenient to always pull out the stainless steel kitchen cutlery. Huge amounts of single-use cutlery, tableware, and food packaging are used and disposed of yearly – about 39 billion items in the US alone. These alarming numbers encouraged us to provide eco-friendly items for the food industry and individuals. Food-related businesses are the leading contender in using and abusing plastic, Styrofoam, and paper one-use cutlery and tableware - and a planet-promoting alternative was much needed. EnviroCentre has sourced two different types of environmentally friendly, sustainable, and economic solutions for this application in the form of natural starch (Plastarch) cutlery and containers, and take away containers and plates made from Bagasse which is a by product of sugar cane processing. Both types of product are made from 100% biodegradable materials. Plastarch (PSM), is a thermoplastic resin made from natural starches, in this case, potato and corn. Despite this, it can withstand high heat, which has been tested to withstand heat up to 105°C/220°F! For the take away food industry, Bagasse products are ideal, as they are well suited to hot takeaway food. Bagasse plates and take away containers are well constructed and prevent the food from sweating, so giving the customer a better food experience than the Styrofoam containers they replace.
Many plastic alternatives have rough edges, that threaten to slit the sides of your mouth as you take a spoonful of your favourite ice cream. The smooth edges of Plastarch products are about twice the standard thickness, ensuring comfort in every bite.
