New Forestry Projects Launched

C-Questor has recently signed a number of agreements to develop carbon credit based programs. These include a project to protect substantial tracts of pristine rain forest in South East Asia using the reduced emissions from deforestation and degradation (REDD) criteria, and two substantial projects in West Africa, one aiming to restore the quality of 1 million hectares of rainforest to near natural condition, the other seeking to ensure fully sustainable forest management for timber on 500,000 hectares with an option on a further area.

‘Climate Stability, Prosperity and Bio-Diversity are not Incompatible’

ImageWe work hard to select the most appropriate form of carbon credit for each project, whether through the voluntary carbon markets or the official Kyoto approved clean development mechanism official carbon offsets. Wherever possible, we aim to achieve the requisite standard for climate community and biodiversity certification as well as a recognised carbon certificate. In this way, we ensure that benefits to local people are maximised, and bio-diversity is protected while at the same time, tackling climate change. As well as all these community and environmental benefits, this ethical approach ensures that we will steadily earn a profit both for the company and for our business partners.

Among the core aims of C-Questor is the protection and enhancement of forest. Largely unnoticed, the forests provide a large number of environmental services on which we all depend. Until recently, these services were taken for granted to the extent that we were aware of them at all, and were not recognised as having monetary value. Services provided by the forest include helping to regulate the amount of CO2 in the atmosphere, hosting a huge variety of plant and animal life – so forming a vast repository for bio-diversity, production of rain by evapo-transpiration, protecting the watersheds which provide water supplies to our cities from erosion and pollution, mitigating flooding and drought, and protecting our coastlines from storm surge, erosion and tsunami.

‘We have a varity of different packages that can be tailored to individual landowners needs’

ImageRecent changes in attitude, along with treaties such as Kyoto and various national programs are starting to recognise the value of forests, and have enabled some of the services they provide to acquire a monetary value. Most notable among these are CO2 sequestration, and bio-diversity protection. Our activities in the field of forestry are primarily aimed at achieving monetarisation of these services for our partners be they private business or government departments, and so ensure the continued presence and health of the forests.

C-Questor is always keen to hear from land owners, NGOs, government departments and others who wish to partner with us in developing further forestry projects, and will ensure that you achieve the highest possible revenue, environmental, and community benefits from your project.
